His research develops nanophotonic and metamaterial approaches to control thermal radiation, with applications in energy harvesting, thermophotovoltaics, radiative cooling, infrared camouflage, and thermal management. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Rhode Island and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Southern California before joining UMBC in 2024.

Soumik Sarker is a doctoral student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology. His research focuses on heat transfer and thermal radiation using nanoscale materials and on developing materials for thermal regulation.
